5 Reasons I Became a Portrait Photographer

Hey there, I’m Denetra Smith and I am the owner and lead photographer at RCK Portrait Photography based right outside of Nashville, TN. I am the wife of a former United States Marine, a mother of three beautiful girls, and a part-time registered nurse. But there’s something else that I’m passionate about – portrait photography! Here are 5 reasons why I, a former Army brat from Texas who has traveled to Europe as a child, decided to become a portrait photographer in Nashville, TN.

1. Capturing Memories as Portrait Photographer:

As a mom, I know how important it is to have beautiful images of my family to look back on in the years to come. I get to capture the essence of a family in a portrait, their relationships, and their personalities, and then turn those moments into beautiful printed images.

2. The Creativity of Portrait Photographer:

I’ve always had a creative side, and portrait photography is the perfect outlet for that. From choosing the perfect location to the lighting and props, there are so many opportunities to let my creativity shine through in each portrait session.

3. Meeting New People:

As a nurse, I love helping people. As a portrait photographer, I get to connect with people in a different way. I get to know my clients on a personal level and help them create something special. Portrait photography has given me the chance to connect with people from all walks of life and to capture their unique personalities through my lens. I love being able to connect with my clients and make them feel comfortable in front of the camera.

4. Building a Business :

As a part-time registered nurse, wife, and mom of three, I wanted to find a way to build a business that would allow me to work on my own terms and spend more time with my family. Becoming a portrait photographer has allowed me to fulfill a lifelong dream. It’s never too late to pursue your dreams!

5. Empowering Women as a Portrait Photographer:

As a black female portrait photographer, I love being able to empower other women by helping them feel beautiful and confident in front of the camera. It’s a great feeling to be able to help women celebrate themselves and feel good about who they are.

At the end of the day, I feel like I’m making a difference through my work. I’m capturing memories, celebrating diversity, empowering women, and creating art. It’s an amazing feeling to know that I’m making a positive impact on the world.
